I would like a Mac to support powerful filmaking on ocassion, however it will be primiarly used for microsoft excel, internet, and email. So what model of a Mac should I buy and where should I buy it? I bought a g3 off of eBay a few years ago and it sometimes has trouble starting up.

Also, how hard is it to run microsoft excell files on Mac that are compatible with Windows versions of the program?

I am looking for a Mac solution to this question. Does a Mac Mini (when connected to a tv - using the DVI Connector) look as good as a Apple TV in Picture quality? The reason is, I am looking to play dvd’s from the Mac Mini as well and Apple TV doesn’t play DVD files (.VOB) Basically I am looking for a Mac media server without having to re-encode a bunch of DVD’s to H.264.

Well, I pretty much only use Mac applications, so I don’t really need Intel based processing. Its time to get a new iMac, and I think I’d rather get a used iMac 24 G5, than a new Intel Core Duo 2, but I know you can’t compare the 2. HELP~?!?

I will be flying half way around the world and I was just wondering… Ok so i have a macbook pro, and the batter life sucks. 10 min without the adapter and it dies.
So if my flight is 12 hours long, how do i keep my computer alive? i dont want to buy an airplane adapter, but is there anyway you can stuff batteries in it or something? or can you change the settings to have it have more life and juice for a dozen hours.

Do any of you own a macbook pro and macbook air? I love to go around and use wi-fi on my laptop but I am sick of lugging it around, the air to me seems to be the perfect solution. Can someone let me know if they like their air? DO you think it is stupid to have both. I would never get rid of the Pro it is the perfect computer, should I get the MBA?

I need to get a wireless router for my Macbook Air and my sister’s Macbook, but I wanted to know if I could use a wireless router other then the Aiport Extreme.

I don’t want to get the Aiport Extreme because apparently it sucks..

I am going to be going to art school and I do a lot of fashion illustrations. I always seem artists/designers using macs and I don’t really know about mac computers. Why are they used in the art fields, is it the programs the macs have? Any suggestions would be great. I know that I am going to be using photoshop and illustrator for my fashion illustrations.

I’m looking to buy a Mac Mini as I need a Mac to do my graphics work - I’ve recently moved into my own place and I thought it would be an awesome idea to use a Mac Mini through my 37 HD LCD TV instead of purchasing something like an iMac or a MacBook as I have a tight budget (Plus I have seen it done at college).

I am not sure if it is plugged in using a normal RGB cable or if you can use a HDMI cable to get a better resolution.

I am 15, I have a PC, it is really slow and crashes a lot but I like Macs more and I already know how to use Macs, I want a Mac Mini and I have told my mom for more than 6 months that I want a Mac but she says that she doesn’t have money, but that is because she is always wasting money on things that she doesn’t use, what should i do? PS: I want the one that costs $599
Don’t say that i shouldn’t buy a Mac mini because a PC sucks more and it crashes more besides there is no computer out there that has the same specs for the same price, I want a Mac because I know that PC’s suck. The Specs of the Mac Mini are: 1.83 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 1 GB RAM, Bluetooth 2.0, Airport Extreme, 80 GB HDD and it comes with iLife ‘08 and OSX, do you guys think that I should wait for Leopard to come out? And please don’t tell me to get a PC because I prefer a Mac 1,000 times
Also, I know that it’s her money but she always spends it on things that she doesn’t use and because of that she never buys me anything, the last thing that I can remember that she bought me were some games on March, and she does have money but she is selfish

I have a used Powerbook G4 80GB in mediocre shape. The battery needs to be replaced, it has scratches and dents and the ‘a’ key is missing. I’m not looking to make a ton of money on it, but it still runs well as long as it is plugged in. How much should I ask for?

Can the macbook pro wirelessly access other optical drives in other PCs like the macbook air? also, does it have the iPhone type capabilities that the air has? for example: making the font size bigger by using your fingers on the trackpad(not sure if that’s what it’s called)

I know nothing about macs, but my husband uses one at work and says they are better than PCs. He’s been wanting to get one for our home. I found this in my local classifieds online. They are only asking $50 for it, so I’m thinking it may be a steal, but I don’t want to waste $50 on something we can’t use. Tell me what you think - here’s the ad:

Computer runs Mac OS 9.2.2. It has a 6GB hard disk, and 512 MB RAM, keyboard, and mouse. It’s in near perfect condition, and comes installed with Microsoft Internet Explorer, and Netscape 4.7. Also has some other software packages you might find useful

That’s it. It’s a tangerine Apple iMac. It looks like it’s in good shape on the picture.

What do you think? Should I buy it?

The Air is about $2000 but I could get a used regular Macbook $1000.

Is the Air worth investing the extra 1000 when it will probably be obsolete in a year?

What do you think and why?

Optional factors to consider:

- I will use the laptop for work at home and toting around a lot in law school.
- Law school is so expensive maybe I shouldn’t be buying expensive computers for it
- When the Air is obsolete, the current macbooks will be obsolete as well, so why not just get an older model anyway?
- I need a computer now.
- I’ve been waiting to get one until the earlier of
1. breaking down bc life is just that much harder without one or
2. a new mac model comes out that is lighter and doesn’t hurt my palms (the 90 deg edge of the current macbook) when I’m typing.

I have a Comcast HD DVR box and I wanted to know if anyone knew if I could copy the contents of the hard drive to a DVD using my MacBook Pro. I’ve heard that I could connect the DVR box to my computer using a Firewire cable, but I’m not exactly sure what I would do next. I don’t know what software I’d use or if it’s actually possible to do that because I really don’t want to spend $200 for a DVD recorder if I can just do it on my computer. If anyone has any advice for me, I’d really appreciate it.

I right-clicked an underlined word (misspelled), but accidentally clicked Add to Dictionary rather than choosing the correct spelling. How do I look at the words which I’ve added to the dictionary? I’m using Firefox 2.0, mac os x.

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro, and I LOVE it. I was wondering why they are used so much in TV commercials. I’ve seen them in all sorts of commercials, from home depot ones, to McDonalds. Why are they used so much in TV ads? Is it a type of advertising Mac is paying for? Or is it just coincidence?

Some menu windows start to open without been commanded. They are not web pages that open, they are menu options windows. I think it could be a virus. Do you know a anti-virus that I can download or if it´s a configuration problem? Thanks. I use a Mac mini with Mac Os Tiger.
